While we often note that issues surrounding hunger and children are quite different in developed nations than they are in developing nations, it is also interesting to see how similar they are. Hunger here in America disproportionately affects children, just as in less developed nations. While a hungry child anywhere is unacceptable, our initial efforts with the Active for Good challenges are to treat children who are living at the very edge of survival and are severely acutely malnourished. So while we are harvesting calories here in the USA, we want to use those calories as strategically as possible. Eventually we hope to be able to address the urgent needs of children that are life and death, and begin to address needs here where children suffer from debilitating hunger as well.
